TCEQ accepting nominations for 2012 Texas Environmental Excellence Awards

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2012 Texas Environmental Excellence Awards, the state's highest environmental honor. These annual awards recognize achievements across Texas that significantly reduce waste, conserve natural resources, and prevent pollution. Deadline for applications is Oct. 7.

The Texas Environmental Excellence Awards are presented annually by the governor's office and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. A governor's blue ribbon committee identifies outstanding contributions in nine diverse categories. The public may nominate an individual, community, company, or organization for an award. Award categories include: Agriculture, Civic/Community, Education, Individual, Innovative Operations/Management, Pollution Prevention, Technical/Technology, Water Conservation, and Youth.

“These awards honor the people and the organizations that have gone the extra mile to protect our natural resources,” said TCEQ Chairman Bryan W. Shaw, Ph.D. “Their commitment stands as an inspiration for all of us.”

"The recipients of these awards have worked hard to make the state a better place to live, and this is a small way of thanking them for making some big efforts to take care of Texas,” said Commissioner Buddy Garcia.

"Texas and Texans have a great story to tell regarding our collective efforts and success in protecting the environment, even in these tough economic times," said Commissioner Carlos Rubinstein. "These honorees exemplify Texas' commitment to cutting edge and exemplary environmental efforts, and we commend them for doing that."
